Today's Daily Verse is found in Proverbs 1.4

"for endowing with caution those who don’t think and the young person with knowledge and discretion.."

What is discretion?

Proverbs 8.12-13

"I, wisdom, (God’s wisdom) dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech."

  • "knowledge" and "discretion" are connected
  • All actions and words are to be processed through and through
  • All actions and words are to reflect the "wisdom" of GOD

Proverbs 2.11-12 "Discretion will protect us, and understanding will guard us. Wisdom will save us from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse."

Discretion is enjoyed by people who are mature.

It implies the freedom to make quality choices with our own "GOD-wisdom" judgment, and not be controlled by the emotions   of other people.

What is indiscretion?

  • Indiscretion is acting foolishly
  • Indiscretion is acting "by impulse"
  • People who "shoot their mouth off" are indiscreet
  • Indiscretion is practiced by those who are "only interested in being heard"

Proverbs 11.22

"Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion."

Be warned whenever you see or read about people who try to exalt themselves with beauty, popularity or prestige while forgetting to practice discretion.

Hebrews 12.11

"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."

Here lies the value of the Bible, as the one source of instruction, and the alone "treasure-house" of the "words of knowledge."

This is the battle we face. Discretion!

Our thought-life is developed through the "information" we feed on.

Then we are to put that "knowledge" first in all thoughts, words, and actions...

See you tomorrow...

Kenneth
