When we love and embrace instruction, we show we value true knowledge through whatever channel it comes to us.

Today's Daily Verse is found in Proverbs 13.18

" Poverty and shame shall come to him that refuses instruction : but he that embraces reproof shall be honored."

This verse ties in with Proverbs 12.1

"Whoever loves instruction, loves knowledge : But those that hates reproof is brutish."

When we prefer our own "unbridled" will... we are like wild horses

Job 11.12 "An empty-headed person won’t become wise any more than a wild donkey can bear a human child."

Lasting honor comes when discipline and willingness to be "bridled" and controlled is present.

Wild horses do not qualify...they will not submit to a bridle

James 1.26 "If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain."

Discipline and instruction are linked together...

Hebrews 12.10-11

"For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. 11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way."

Poverty and shame - the prodigal son

Luke 15.12-16

"The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons.

13 “A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. 14 About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. 15 He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. 16 The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything."

Sometimes poverty and shame becomes the rod GOD uses to turn us around and to get our attention - giving us the opportunity to "humble ourselves under the mighty hand of GOD".

GOD gets our attention by bringing us to want.

Then we learn the dread of being left to our own desires which are based around the scripture -

1 John 2.16

"For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world."

What are the results of submitting to His discipline

Hebrews 12.7

"As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father?"

Then...

1 Peter 5.6

"So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor."

Pleasant indeed are His words to His well-disciplined child. To have our ears opened to receive discipline, is to walk in the path of life and happiness...

Proverbs 6.23

"For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.

Job 36.10-12

10 "He gets their attention and commands that they turn from evil.

11 “If they listen and obey God, they will be blessed with prosperity throughout their lives. All their years will be pleasant.

12 But if they refuse to listen to him, they will cross over the river of death,
    dying from lack of understanding."

Jesus Christ showed us the way on this...

Hebrews 5.8

"Although He was a Son, He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered" AMP version

Are we willing to put our pride aside, and allow the Holy Spirit of GOD to take control of our thinking, attitudes, and our future?

I know what my answer is. I hope yours is the same...
